Curriculum

You’ve spent four years learning about yourself, God and the world in the context of the university, now Crossings will help you adjust everything you’ve learned to life after college. You know you need community – how will you create community after college? You know you need a place of worship – how will you pick a church? You know you need a place to use your gifts – how will you lead and love others when you’re the youngest person in your workplace?

Crossings will focus on a few of the major adjustments you have to make after college – community & relationships, identity & calling and money & possessions. This trip will help you figure out how to keep God at the center of all those things and make wise decisions within each of those areas.

A Day in the Life of a Crossings Participant

On Crossings, you will travel from island to island in the Georgian Bay with a group of 10-12 other students who are making the same transition out of college. At the beginning of the trip, you will meet your instructors and the other participants near Pittsburgh, PA to spend time preparing for the trip and learning how to kayak. From there, you will travel together to your destination.

Your first day or two of kayaking and camping will include lessons in wilderness living – everything from how to cook and purify your drinking water to how to bathe. During an average day on the Georgian Bay, you will wake up in the morning, cook breakfast, pack your boats, and get to spend some time on the water. In the evening, after arriving at your next island campsite, you will set up camp and make dinner before getting together to participate in activities or discussions designed to help you process and prepare for your transition.

About the Georgian Bay

The Georgian Bay extends off of Lake Huron. The bay is about 9,300 square miles and contains tens of thousands of islands. While some islands are large and forested, others are simply large granite formations, sparsely covered by pines. The area is known for its beautiful rock, exposed by glaciers during the last ice age, 11,000 years ago. Check out photos from past trips here.
