Detailed details:

Working with Groups is the essential seminar for staff who facilitate groups. Through the integration of theory and practice, you will learn how to read, understand, evaluate, and be lead proactively in the development of small groups. It will only run if we have at least 10 participants sign up.

Much of our lives are spent in groups. Family, friends, churches, work, organizations, sports teams, and musical ensembles are common examples. Typically, however, we don’t spend much time trying to understand what is going on in these groups at the interpersonal and group dynamics level. As leaders of groups, facilitators and educators, we have a professional or vocational interest in helping the groups with which we work function in ways that are healthy and effective. Therefore, it is essential for us to seek continual improvement in our abilities to facilitate group learning and development. This workshop will give you an opportunity to:

  • raise your awareness of the breadth and depth of group dynamics and examine the themes and issues underlying group development
  • gain experience at diagnosing group needs as well as designing and facilitating appropriate “interventions” to encourage positive change
  • become a more confident and competent “participant-observer” of group processes
  • receive feedback relative to your role in and impact on the group

The design of the workshop is highly intensive and experiential. It is structured to encourage an atmosphere of collaborative learning and demands that each participant take an active role in the group and full responsibility for his/her own learning. Though the group may experience therapeutic moments together, this is not a therapy session. Due to the nature of the workshop, we ask that if you are currently undergoing therapy or psychological counseling, you not register.

Due to the design of the workshop, involvement will be limited to 20 participants. Advance registration is recommended, and further information will be forwarded to you upon receipt of your deposit.

Paul Harbison, Francois Guilleux, Joy Guilleux, and Kelly Ozelski will be your facilitators.
